Today with Chris and Tracey – Relapse Prevention Part 6

Losing Touch with Your Spirituality

One of the greatest reasons people relapse is that they lose touch with their spirituality. It is paramount to us and our recovery that we understand that we do not need religion – we need a relationship with God. We must never forget that our will and our life has been turned over to God. This certainly includes our recovery. There is absolutely no area of our lives that we need to hold back from God. It is my experience that every problem I have today is the direct result of me taking something back from God that I had given over to Him.

The key is relationship. We cannot have a relationship with God or anyone else by ignoring them, not talking to them, doing things to hurt them or not “hanging out” with them. God wants – even desires to be our friend.

Proverbs 18:24 “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

It is God’s desire to be that “friend” in our lives today. There are many ways that we can cultivate our relationships with God. The obvious of course is to pray and meditate. Relationships, any relationship takes communication. We talk to God – prayer. God talks to us – meditation. There is also an abundance of daily devotional materials out there for us to take advantage of. Being thankful is another way we can express and live in our spirituality. Keep a gratitude list. Our recovery depends on our willingness to give our will and our life over to the care of God. Do not lose touch with your spirituality.

Tomorrow, I am going to begin writing about the wonderful relationship that I have with God. Perhaps it will lead to just relationships in general. Who knows. Have a wonderful day and remember, our recovery is our responsibility. Relapse is real and deadly. Live in today and know the enemy.

Very good. It is so true for anything in our lives. Everything will be out of whack if our relationship with Christ is suffering. I know when I’ve strayed away, other things suffer. Enjoy your posts and keep it up!!!!!!
